Would appreciate any thoughts on a Triton 721 as a single-handed day-sailer and occasional overnighter/weekender.
Thanks.

Should be fine. Probably the Triton 24 would be good enough too. John Allsop was an airline pilot that designed these vessels in his spare time. Spade rudder is a little small and looks like it might stall easy but I have never sailed one.
Hello markje4
we had a Triton 721 built for us in 1980 by Seahorse Yachts in Seven Hills, Sydney and kept the boat in the family right up until my Dad's passing in 2008. The initial build was VERY dubious, however, once things were ironed out, she was an okay boat. A good compromise with standing headroom etc.
Sailed mostly in Moreton Bay, Dad raced the boat early on, but as the years went by, he cruised singlehanded right up to when he passed away. She was a very simple boat to sail. We/he had her out in some fairly uncomfortable conditions and she brought us home safely.
She had a tendency to 'plant' her bottom , so a sugar scoop was built to alleviate this problem.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Tracey

Thanks for the info. Looking for a reliable boat to give me some joy for a few years. For the price, could be the one.

Nicely fitted out but a lot of money for a 24 footer.

I would not say over priced. Look at the work that has been done to it hopefully this would cost very minimal and need very little spent on it for 5 years. Good sails newish motor. Could pay 3000 for a ****ter then 10000 for a motor and 5000 for sails this boat has it all.done ready to use.

Had a lookover and sail yesterday yesterday. Current owner of 4 years has all documents showing annual lifts and antifouling as well as professional maintenance on motor. Very neat and tidy below. Lovely dry boat obviously well looked after by owner who uses it regularly.
It's your money. Lot of money for a small boat in today's climate. Money spent on any boat is not going to add to the value of the vessel when it comes time to move on. It only takes one buyer of course.
Hello Markje4
I have been moored next door to that particular Triton for the past 4 years. As you mentioned, it appears to have been well looked after and used quite regularly. . He pretty much sails it singled handed around Pittwater as he has a very young family.
Nice boat but perhaps a bit pricey. But there are much worse out there for the same price.
I work on the principle that if you are happy with it (be it boat bike or car) then no one else's opinion matters a rats.
Simple philosophy and has usually worked for me.
Guess then no one here would pay what I would expect for mine if it was on the market ..... cheap is not usually a bargain and as someone else has said, buying cheap then spending big dollars on major items is not good sense.
Buy what you like and enjoy it .... I looked seriously at a Triton when living in Darwin, imho good little boat.
My thoughts for what they are worth.
Plenty of Triton 24s around for $5 or $6k. Old boats with bolt-on keels not in great demand. Check them bolts.... Stainless steel bolts for keels have some doubters due to possibility of crevice corrosion. Gal or bronze preferred.
Its so mint. I personally get great joy outta my tophat that cost 11.5k less. Moneys tight for me but shes the right boat for me.
To me the problem with mint boats is they don't stay that way.
I actually sold my bluebird for 500 more than i paid and will sell the tophat for at least 2k more than i paid. Why? I buy ****ters and make em awesome.
I looked at a Pacific for my first boat. Might be an option to replace MB if I decide to get a local waters runabout.
Id prefer that too ramona over the triton. More boat more options. More work too no doubt but fine if you dont mind that!

MB....it was really nice to catch up the other day, albeit briefly. But why would you want to swap
a boat you already know and own for one you don't.
