Simply the best and the cheapest, easily downloadable official admiralty chart compilation. It is an ENC version of the paper charts.
I downloaded Memory Map just for this trip, for my phone, no gps, and my tablet with gps.
For fifty bucks spend l had the right tool in my hands last night to raise the alarm and avoid disaster just waking from my sleep from the change of the wind and the change of waves direction.
The ease of use, accuracy and simplicity of the Memory Map program made it possible to quickly pinpoint an errant navigational decision by the skipper, while still in my bunk.
I tried to grapple with Navionics and few other nav. programs for years, which l found unnecessarily complicated over clattered toys. (Please do not chastise me over this!)
Following the KISS principle l downloaded Memory Map to my devices for this trip, and l am glad.
I also must state here, that l am in no way associated or any which way connected to the above mentioned brand and product at all. I am only a very very happy customer.
It is no toy it is a tool. And a very useful one.
l highly recommend it to everybody navigating.
So, my good knight: how about some more detail for the digitally challenged older sailor. Maybe a linky thing!

No nswsailor, l was the hired help.
But what happens on the boat, stays on the boat. Mum's the word.
As far as the digitally challenged older sailor is concerned, my good gatekeeper, it is me.
Yeah, MMap website, find your options and costs, PRICES ARE IN YANKEE DOLLARS!
Go to digital maps, download ENC AUS5 which is the whole of Oz, all the charts plus Beacon to Beacon for qld. included in a ZIP file, and l think the colored barrier reef protection zone charts as well, but l did not deal with this part yet.
The lot for 55 bucks oz. The refresh option is there as well for around 45$ oz.
To satisfy the authorities, one buys a few large scale paper charts and the rest is done on the ENC.
To emphasize the change in my attitude, l used to be an avid paper chart promoter and user dismissing ENC's as gimmicks.
l have to admit, l was wrong, however, the carrying of paper charts can not be dismissed in case of abject electrical failure on board. Here l am not thinking of failed batteries but lightning strikes, which would make all electronics utterly usesless except the ones kept in a Faraday cage.
Just load the charts of your local area on to a USB stick and take it into Office works and have it printed off in black and white. This is all you need for a boat in survey.

Most commercial printers (including Office Jerks) won't do it and will quote the copyright act to you.

Just use a photo programme of choice. Enlarge and crop the appropriate parts you need. Office works don't give a rats!

It was Office Jerks that tried reading the copyright act to me .... and it's the one in our town.
I guess it depends on who you get to serve you.

Tell office pukes that you are aware of the copyright laws however, when you purchased the download you also purchased the rights to copy the charts to hardcopy for your own personal use, so you are allowed to copy them to paper.
This is what you need?
Carrying the o f f i c i a l charts, despite the late comments could not be recommended highly enough.![]()
