Has anyone heard of big brother cracking down on the use of Tenders ? Gossip has it they are planning on enforcing the law of no fishing or sightseeing in QLD.

Tender registration
If your boat or PWC is a tender to a registered recreational ship, it is exempt from registration if:
it is only used within 2 nautical miles of the parent ship
and it is being used to transport people or provisions between the ship and the shore-this does not include fishing or sightseeing activities.

The tender must be marked on the exterior with the word 'tender' and the parent ship's registration numbers, in characters at least 75mm high. If this is not possible, markings should be on the inside of the boat in the largest characters possible. If the tender is used for more than 1 ship, it may be marked with the owner's name.

Read this and see that even MSQ doesn't seem to be fully in step with their own regulations ......

Maybe an email to Bob Norson, the editor of The Coastal Passage may be of assistance. he has an intense dislike of MSQ so spends a lot of time researching MSQ regs for the benefit of boaties. Sometimes though he does get a bit too passionate about his subject.

I have a very direct answer to this topic.

Best I keep it to myself. I don't think endless swearing and ranting is considered cosher here.

Only if your tender has an engine of more than 3kw or 4hp. A 4hp tender is a substantial boat.
If your tender is that big and you want to avoid rego you must only use it as a tender. If you want to use it as more than a tender it needs to be registered in its own right.
Seems reasonable to me.

yeah i agree, the thing that i don't agree with is why not allow people to fish(or crabbing) from tender or explore "sightseeing"?

I wish South Australia had the same regulations.

We have to register any tender that is motorized.
The only boats that can apply for exemption are canoes & kayaks with an electric motor less than 150 newtons (about 0.4 hp)

The govt never stops coming up with ways to get money from us. I guess they need to pay the airfares of their family members on overseas holidays .... and helicopter flights

C'mmon Trek! You are a cinic!
Did you not realise in your blissful ignorance, that the government, all governments are doing things like this for our own good?
You should be politically re-educated.

Yeah, I agree with Sirgall,

Every time theres a tax increase or levy imposed upon us I simply jump for joy and give thanks to the
Lord.

We should be eternally gratefull for the wonderful things our extremely hard working members do for us. Overseas family holidays, helicopter rides where a taxi or limo could do the same job at a fraction of the price, living high on the hog, generous superanuation without the limits placed on us mere mortals, these are the sacrifices our elected members MUST pay for serving us.

Honestly, every day when I first wake up the first thought that comes into my head is the wish for even more tax increases. It makes me feel so secure knowing I am going to be so much better off with each new increase.

I must admit, I do give thought to the notion that eventually we will have no money left for ourselves after taxes. What then ?

Thats when, as Margaret Thatcher said, the whole socialist system comes crashing down. (apologies for political comment on this august site)

What's the bet that the change to the rules were caused by a bunch of people being dills with high-powered boats used (or claimed to be used) as tenders, and getting away with it because of the exemption designed for more reasonable people? I've certainly seen a fair bit of that in the past.

Could be...when I was about 16 I built a 8ft hydroplane....with a 9 hp motor it was capable of 25-30 knts+. No good as a tender it was 1/2 submerged at rest, but it was registered. You could claim it was a tender of a larger boat.
