Just fitted a Beta Marine 3 Cyl 30 HP and couldnt be happier. great little engine.

Beta Marine do a great job of marinizing the Kubota Diesels and Kubotas are legendary for reliability.
Three cylinders is the way to go. Very smooth.
Check these guys out (Diecon) for locally marinized second hand (Jap Import) or new Kubotas.
My Volvo Penta D1-30B (27.3 HP, 3 cyl.) engines have been reliable.
The sail drives, on the other hand, cost me a small fortune during my last service. Both had developed leaks - possibly self inflicted due to impacts. But I guess I can't blame the engines for that.
