With more and more boats being built and launched that are too big to be trailerable and with the mooring situation (in NSW that i know of) being at full capacity more than ten years ago i was wondering where all the old boats go to die ?
Like old cars end up at the wrecking yard and sold for parts, Is there any boat wreckers out there?
Might be a buisness idea in there?
There is no problem getting a mooring where I am and mooring apparatus come up for sale regularly. Also particularly cheap fees if your a pensioner. You just have to leave the Sydney environs.
Hangtime
Bloody good question, have pondered the same question myself but have come to the conclusion that most seem to hang out on skid row (the marina arm I am on) some of the boats have seen no TLC for years and yet I guess the owners (never seen) keep throwing money at the marina berthing cost because its easy, must be great to be rich...?
Or do tired boat owners of old boats just scuttle them when no one is looking...?
Not every boat has a wealthy owner and not paying marina fees, the boat
/after lengthy procedures/, is going to auction.
Yaringa in Mel. is rather small, but has 600 boats-dry storage.
Last auction was a month ago.
"Maxiyachts" on Ebay is a broker that operates out of Woolwich marina. he sells these boats that have been abandoned for councils, marinas and yacht clubs etc. The Msb also has regular auctions for the same.
Disralei
Anything they can managed to get to auction.
Sometimes nice bargains, sometimes, the boat is bought because of price of the ballast.
They have them on website prior auction but more ofter they are more boats than
on website. /Yaringa Auction /

Most of these end up in the corner of the Marina yard opposite our place...see Capricorn and the timber trawler, and also the Bayliner. If they don't pay the marina fees for a lengthy period of time they seize the boat and then either wreck it or sell it to some mug silly enough to try to patch it up..same two boats spring to mind!![]()

You should become a boat priest and adminer the last rights to the broken old vessels, hey, you could do it from your balcony...?![]()
