If I buy a yacht and live on it, where can I park my car?
Do marinas provide a car spot, or a car permit for members?
What about personal effects that can't be lugged around on a boat? Do liveaboards use storage facilities?
What's the deal?
If I live aboard a yacht, I am going to want to have a car.
Specifically, I will be putting my yacht in a gold coast marina.
Does anyone know what those guys do? Obviously no one gets down to the point where their entire earthly possessions are on a 30 foot yacht and they don't have anything anywhere else (or even a car). Right?
If worse comes to worse, I'll probably go door knocking and ask houses close by if they'll let me park a car on their front lawn for $20 a week. I'll give them $80 ever month. I am sure someone will say: "Cool, sure!".
Just about every marina in qld has parking available, some places it can be a squeeze. Make sure you aren't overly attached to it as the drunks and salt get to work pretty quickly. Lots of yachties put stuff in storage, we just sold everything. By the time you get back from any decent cruise the crap you had will be meaningless and an unnecessary expense.

Yeah, I'd probably just get a little 4 cylinder Hyundai Excel for about $2k and park it there.
It's great to know that they have parking through. Thanks heaps fr your response.
..and as for storage - yeah, I wouldn't store anything except for personal effects. Stuff that can't be replaced. Photos, computers (HD'S), gifts (that have been given to me), etc. Anything else (that can be replaced), I'll just get rid of it.
So, this parking you speak of - it is usually Marina parking right? Like, only Marina people can park there? ie: I'm not going to com back to 35 tickets all over the windscreen?:)
Thanks heaps for helping me out - this forum really is helping me to understand a LOT of stuff. And I do really appreciate it.
Most marinas have a secure parking area, you need a swipe card to get in.
For example, in Manly Hbr (Brisbane), there are 4 marinas. Of these 2 are swipe entry only, the other two are open during the day because commercial business operate onsite but locked with swipe only entry after hours.
Mackay, swipe entry, some areas shared with residential units.
Roslyn Bay, Yepoon. Big parking area but not fenced.

Ah, cool. Good to know. Thanks :)
