Sad to see another one come to greif. I was looking on Marine trafic and saw a yacht that looks very simmilar to the one wrecked leaving Lakes Enterance and head off into an easterly. It was about 25 nautical miles from the enterance and 10 or so off the coast. a bit before Marlo. Judjing from the AIS track it looked a bit eratic and was not making a straight heading. In fact it was heading towards the coast last I saw. Later when I had a look it didn't show up on Marine traffic so I thought it was back in port or the transponder switched off. It may not be the same Yackt, the pic on Marine traffic looked like a steel Sprey with windows in the transom , I think, and big slabby sides with a lot of freeboard, same colour scheme. I was a bit concerned but thought it might be on a day trip and head back to the enterance.

Your heart surely has to go out to these people, whatever the circumstances.
We all go to sea with optimism and faith in our abilities and the vessel that carries us.
We all make mistakes, I just hope and pray that I don't make a mistake and someday end up like this.

I had a older guy come for a chat the other week, he was going to look at a steel yacht similar to that one, was in Bowen on gumtree, $35,000 for 48 footer ! Bargain hey! Hmmm nope I won't be helping you deliver that any further than the Whitsundays
If it's the same yacht as the AIS track I saw, and I'm fairly confident it is, the transponder didnt give a reading after just before it was off shore from Marlo or there abouts. The track was first heading east offshore, then turned sharply towards the coast and continued in a wide curve gradualy changing its heading eastward. Here is a rough drawing of the more irregular AIS track.

In fact, the track was so irregular that I was concerned and I tried to find the yacht on Marine traffic several times later in the day and on Sunday. I thought and hoped that maybe it was on a day trip or ocean trial and had headed back to Lakes Enterance.

Looking at the track on AIS he might have been unconscious/dead at the point it turned towards the coast. Heart attack, a fit maybe? Poor bugger.
Very sad but a far better way to go, doing something you love, than watching your life seep away in an old age home.
he was living the dream...
apparently he spent 15 months working on the boat and that was his maiden voyage:

Honestly, what the hell can you say.
The guy was fulfilling a dream. One which many of us hope to fulfill.
My heart goes out to his family, my heart goes out to the man.
Every time I go out on a long distance sail, I say a silent prayer.
Pleas Lord, I am sailing into uncharted waters, deliver me, whatever my sins.
I am NOT a devout Christian,
But you have to believe in something.
