Ok...long story short. ..based in tahiti. ..do some serious surf searching.
Water is always a issue.
And so is food.
U can only eat so much tuna![]()
Has anyone else set a yacht with room for a goat and chickens ?![]()
Vegetarians possible, ... in NZ on the river at Whangarei I visited a friend of a friends very large ferro motor cruiser. They had a little garden on board so they could eat fresh greens wherever they went. I think it was the cats loo too ...hmmmmm
Saw a yacht in Darwin with chooks onboard, size and the way your yacht is set up and time offshore I guess will all factor in to what you can carry/set u onboard. Fridge? Freezer? Secure storage space? I've used cryvac, drying and some solar with pump and bladder systems for topping up water tanks and rain water catchment systems in place in the past with good results for up to 8 weeks offshore.
I can recall Slocum was given one or two goats he had to drop them off after they started eating his sails and every thing else
We grew sprouts and mung beans. I banned Potted plants (too much dirt). Most pacific islands have awesome cheap veggies in season only and lots.of.fish. not sure about chickens and goats... Wouldn't work on.my boat! We had plenty of tins-but most made it back to.oz after 18/months on board.... Still have water chestnuts if anyone wants some. Eat what the locals eat. Cheap and plentiful.
goats and chooks stink bad enough when their on land, really don't want to think about the smell factor on a boat with them, but even if you could do something about the smell, you'd still need more room for their feed than you'd get from having them for food on your trip, invest in a freezer and more batteries to run it, then you can have as much good meat as you can fit.![]()
