was contemplating running a coaxial cable up the mast wondered if anyone had found a good antenna to use.
Mainly when others may be on the boat and occasional weather report.
I want to clutter the mast head to keep the birds off as much as possible.
Any free antenna would be worth a try.![]()
No I'm not much help with that but to keep birds off I use a few cable ties with the tail pointing up. Couple on the crane and a few on the spreaders and it works a treat,
Had "Pacific Omni Pro" ....useless. Had GME .....half useless.
For 5 years now I've had OCEANTALK Superdigi HD Twin Aerial system. All free-to-air channels. Currently going for about $700.
Reason it may not suit is that the aerials have to be about a minimum of a metre apart.
My aerials are at either end of a 1500mm wide solar panel which is effectively the roof of my back verandah on the poop seat out over the transom.
Still a line of sight system, kind of, but perfect reception of all the "FTA" channels.
Needs to go onto the targa frame you're building. Google .....oceantalk superdigi tv......go to images and you see the set top box and the aerials.
It's not for a masthead. All depends whether you really want tv reception or a bird free masthead.
If you give me a missed call I'll call ya back with the good guts.
Cheers
When I was in WA we sold truck loads of the Glomex one. We found it was one of the only antennas that would get reception out the back of Garden Island, mind you that was on a masthead as height matters, ALOT!!!
Mind you, unless you are living onboard, why the hell do you want a TV on a boat?
Distributor is Digital Marine at Coomera in Qld. Be careful of old stock from local dealers. Early models were not Full HD. Which meant only
SBS 2 7 9 &10 rather than all 13( ? ) channels eg 7mate, abc 24, etc
With Oceantalk height isn't important. Mt aerials are only 8 feet obove the water. But putting the twin aerials on the spreaders is a real bad idea because the mast interferes with reception. The ONLY tv reception in Pittwater comes ftom satellite systems or Oceantalk. Fwiw.
Oceantalk isn't 5 times the price for nothin'.
Give me a missed call H. Anytime.

No Samsturdy. Never had a mooring. On the hook anywhere from Moruya to Gosford. On the move constantly, depending where, 3 days, a week?
Often anchor at Resolute beach or Great Mackeral. Sometimes Challenger Head. Quite often just outside the moorings at The Basin in 40ft.
Picked up public moorings couple of times at Spit bridge for a day, never anyone elses mooring.
Presently anchored at Quakers Hat in Middle Harbour.
Cheap one works fine at mackerel beach and the basin.
Just need to make sure booster is working.
All 13 channels 2Dogs?
Gotta have 7Mate.......perfect reception? Full HD?
The best by a country mile, and they have a model with cell phone booster. I got 30 plus channels in the middle of nowhere at Cape Bowling Green. I am currently using their small el-cheapo antenna on a pivoting bracket (to get vertical polarised signals) and it is great. Signals from Bundaberg to Sunshine coast while in Hervey bay.http://www.saturnantennas.com.au/
I have one of these on the solar arch works great in places of good reception but gets a bit pixelly in sh1t areas but when in good area hd quality picture

If you're only getting 13 need to retune it was more like 30+ when you include all abc and sbs along with Comercial and shopping chanels. All on a mooring in the basin. Like I said could not get any in refuge bay but also had not phone service their also.

No 2Dogs. I only collect about 13 useful channels. You know the blue police buoy and the 4kt yellow marker at the basin yes? Well I anchor about 10 metres east of them, often. There I get perfect channels off Bouddi Headland. Sometimes, especially off Batemans Bay or east of Wollongong I've also picked up truckloads. But theyre the same channels, only duplicates coming from the Gong or Newcastle.
Anyway numbers: abc x 3, sbs x 3, 7 x 4, 9 x 3 (?) 10 x 2 thats it. Shopping and shipping I delete.
With this system the pictures are perfect if not more than about 50nm line of sight.
If my system dies I'll get the same again. Jesus...full HD! (Sorry Lord).
I don't hang at the Basin much anymore, way too many stickbeaks going by with 10 ft clearance, just gawking at the pauper in his toy boat (anchored in 40ft of water).
Mackerel is now my fovourite. But anywhere in Pittwater is crappy really, 60ft Maritimos with their 6 ft bow waves.
I often get fuel, water, groceries, freezer stuff, bit 'o grog at Brooklyn Marina near the station. Laundromat on the marina. But zero tv reception. Train is handy for Bunnings and Whitties in Newcastle.
