Hi all,
Any thoughts on GRP over timber yachts? as in the Nantucket 43 1986 model.
I've been told they require "ditterent type of maintenace"http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=13126305

Composite construction is a generic term to describe any building construction involving multiple dissimilar materials. .... That's straight from Wiki.
The add doesn't state what the composite method is but given the age of the boat I think it would probably be safe to say timber, either strip plank or multiple moulded veneers which are then sheathed with dynel cloth and epoxy resin. It makes for a very strong boat and one that looks pretty as well, in fact as pretty as one that popped out of a mould.
As for requiring "different type of maintenance" I think you will find that all boats require the same type of looking after and molly coddling. Keep the water on the outside and keep the inside dry.
