I wouldn't use jiff because it scratches. Don't ever use a scotch pad anywhere you want a nice shiny finish. I've seen these used to etch old paint near the tape line before painting. Go with Cisco's advice.

3M Cutting compound used with a 3M wool machine buffing pad is what the professionals use. It has no wax in it, so you will need to seal with a good wax. Jiff is good on the non skid, (use a scrubbing brush) but don't get it on you windows as it will craze them. Jiff will generally not harm your gel coat and is great for removing diesel soot, but it will remove the wax so again you will need to reseal with a good wax.
I have used Jiff for years on all my boats and never had a problem. My previous boat ( a Catlina 445) is almost 3 years old and has always been cleaned with Jiff and still presents as new, so much so it will be on display at the up comming Sydney Boat show. The big secret is to reseal the gel coat with a good wax. I use Maguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow Wax which is a hard Carnauba wax twice a year.
