My brother and I sail a hobie 16 with not too much experience when we started. we found it an easy boat to learn on. Just go out when not too windy.

3 years on we are not happy unless we are on the trapeze. The hobie 14 is a 1 person boat and sits too low in the water with 2 people.

We sail with the Torquay sailing club. check out their website and come down for a sail if you are in Vic.

I had a couple of Hobies 14 and a Hobie 18 They are the best value cats around and resale very well. I ought them looking a bit tired, gave them a good tlc sailed for a bit and resold them for a nice profit. The 14 would be too small for 2 sailors. The 17 offer the possibility of 1 or 2 crew and the 16 can be sailed single handed if you know wht you are doing. The 18 is a bit too much to handle alone and very fast!
