i have a 3m pollycraft and i want to upgrade the motor.
hull plate says it can take 15hp but i have heard of heaps of people using 20hp or more.

Q) is it illegal to exceed the manufacturers reccomendation on compliance plate.

I have a 3m poly tufftender and have a 15HP Yammie on it... flies with 2 people on it but a bit sluggish with 3 up.

Don't know about what the law says re motor size but in most sea states the 15 is more than enough and in some its actually overpowered and kinda dangerous... Polycraft tend to porpoise easily with larger motors and need a good hydroplane fitted to correct it.

I personally wouldn't go larger than the manufacturer's recommendations.
