I am looking at sailing in a 50 ft boat from Sydney to Perth. How long does it take and what time of the year is best and worst
Now is as good a time as any, traveling around the top end you will predominantly have SE and Westerly breezes making 3/4 of the trip very comfortable and minimising motoring time. Realistically give yourself about 3 weeks on a 50ftr with time to enjoy the trip.
not enough info to get valuable answer but let say...hypothetical y speaking ...
it is half a distance through South.....Summer in Vic. is prevailing Easterlies , can get you there very quick
Northbound , by the time you get ready and leave, it would be too late, you in Cyclone Season.
Mate of mine in a Top Hat is going around, he's in Darwin now, moving west again at the end of this month.![]()

That and how many crew and how many are female!
If it is a delivery and you just want to get it there, I had a quote last year for a boat to be moved from Brisbane to Perth.
The guy quoted 50 days and up to 200 hours of engine use

Try posting to a forum at this website: www.freodoctor.com.au You should get some of the more experienced owners input.
This is the main WA sailing website - There are quite a few boats that regualrly make the trip back & forth for S2H, as well as cruising / deliveries.
