Hiya all
Taking a drastic step and buying a place in southern highlands as opposed to a little 2 bed flat for 200 k more than a house in southern highlands.
Im wondering about mooring in Jervis bay/huskisson etc. somewhere there.
Its a bit of a weird area. isn't it part ACT/part nsw?
Does anyone have any experience here?
I could organize a mooring in Greenwell Point for you. It's not a national park. I run a Facebook page for local yachts. Check out Greenwell Point Yachts.
If you can get out of the big city and into a regional centre and have a place to keep and sail your yacht, why would you not do it????
Go for it!!
As far as insurance is concerned, my insurer sent me a list of places where my insurance would be null and woid on a mooring.
Among them was Manly and Greenwell Point.
Be careful, might mean something as far as security in those areas are concerned.

Jervis Bay is particularly hard to get insurance. I was covered by Apia but they sent back my payment a couple of years ago. Then out of the blue they sent me a renewal notice a few months ago. I rang and checked with them, explaining my yacht was on a swing mooring in Greenwell Point and they said fine! I'm paying about $150 for third party. You need this cover to use the public slips. There are no slips in JB so you have to come to Greenwell Point anyway occasionally.
thanks for all that info you guys!
Went down and looked at houses today. going again tomorrow.
Pretty juiced about this move.
Im now possibly gonna get change outta 720k which is the budget and be living in a house.
being a business owner moving outta sydney isn't an issue.
55km to nowra and that is where new boat will be - well green well point i guess!
Hi I had my yacht on a swing mooring at Vincentia JB. Though protected from west and southerly wind the NE were punishing on my nerves and the yacht. After 2 years I abandoned JB and moved my yacht to Shoalhaven Heads. It would be very hard to get insurance at Callala Bay. The creek at Huskisson is an option if you have shallow enough draft; but even then you would be restricted at low tide. You can get insurance for Vincentia but would advised to have your mooring serviced twice a year. Vincentia would also require a boat of 35' plus as anything smaller will be thrown about too much in the 1 metre plus waves from the NE (8 mile fetch).
Ramona's suggestion of Greenwell point would be the best option. The Crookhaven River has a protected entrance and there is also a slip.

Thanks Ramona.
I live at Shell Cove so the yacht is only 30 min drive away. Takes about an hour out to sea but i would rather be on the boat motoring along Berry's Canal than driving all the way around to Greenwell Point. Shoalhaven Heads is really nice, though i have to avoid coming in on a low tide with a strong NE wind as the Comorong Island Punt cable bounces up and down with the potential to catch my twin keels. May consider relocating to Greenwell Point and getting a tinny with a 15hp outboard to get to Warlock from the heads.
