We are interested in getting the navionics app to use sailing offshore but don't know what device is best. Want around 9 - 10 inch screen. Anyone got any feedback that may be useful?

Whatever you buy ensure it has more than one usb or mini usb.

In case you want to plug in a real GPS puck and charge the battery at the same time and even add a mouse so you don't have to touch the screen with your wet hands. Having a port to run a big screen also would be nice. I sold my tablet and bought another laptop!

Recommend me a good GPS chuck Ramona for my old Dell lappy ,
Mine was to be thrown out at work very slow to power up.
But if you just buy a 120 gb SSD( or a 1TB hybrid drive) and reinstall your windows they work really well.
I took a few out of the trash bin and fixed them up for the guys at work. Dell rides again

I got one like this:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-BU-353S4-SiRF-Star-IV-USB-GPS-Receiver-FOR-LAPTOP-CAR-PC-/221057093602?hash=item3378078fe2

I have the same one on my yacht for my Toshiba. Just make sure you buy the SIRF4 chip and not the 3. It's far superior. For my tablet when I had it I bought one of these www.globalsat.com.tw/en/2-909-30784/product/GPS-Receiver-ND-105C-id199954.html. It will now be used with my Dell with a 120gb SSD and that is a rocket ship machine!

What navigation software are you using?

I have a Raymarine a75 MFD Plotter with Navionics as well as a Raymarine A50D Plotter Sounder with Navionics. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of the old one when I upgraded!!

I also have a HP Laptop with a Sirf 4 GPS running OpenCPN & Memory Maps.

Also a Samsung Galaxy tablet with Navionics.

If all of the above fails I have Navionics on my phone too.
