Hi All,
Recently purchased a bounty 35 and looking to replace a few things...one of them is running rigging (except jib sheets)...can anyone recommend a ropes distributor/person?
Another thing im keen on is a wheel autopilot...i saw whitworths setup for a 7.5t yacht for just under 2k...does anyone have any experience on them?

Can you put a bit more info in your bio, as in your location for starters. No sense recommending a supplier in Melbourne if you are in Cairns.
Youre absolutely right :) so am in Sydney and sail out of there...intention is to probably get out of sydney in the not too distant future and see where to next :)

I can supply and splice all ropes you might need at better prices than whitworths or the other place linked above, even with freight from tassie.
I have just done a full set of halyards for a new 48ft cat.
If you want splices then I usually splice in a tip of 4-5m of dyneema. This eliminates the thick and stiff full spectra splice being at the sheave at full hoist, hence that issue that alot of boats have that the last metre or so of the sail is really tough to get up.
That said for most cruising boats I use a version of a halyard knot straight onto the shackle as you are sizing the rope not for strength but for low stretch, therefore losing 40% stength in a knot is not an issue.

I just purchased a new auto pilot i was going to go the steering wheel route a lot cheaper but thought more about it and as i have an aft cabin the emergency tiller is in the aft cabini decided to go linear drive so it give me a second emergency steering just a thought.

So you bought a tiller auto pilot and hooked it up to emergency tiller is that right? Can I ask what kind of autopilot etc? My emergency tiller attachment is at back of cockpit but I havent actually thought of connecting it direct to it...

Case 1: Raymarine
I bought a Raymarine EVO Tiller autopilot 18 months ago for my 26', and find it really good. Simple, quiet, I have had it out in moderate swell and found it really good (if you've trimmed to suit.)
It can go all berko and put itself into standby when it can't get you back on course, (ie: rounded up and pinned flat with too much sail up,) so it is not good enough for hero moments methinks if you like sailing like that.
Pros;
9 axis gyro. This was good for course holding and accuracy.
Uses a ST4000 series hydraulic ram. I'd normally have a 1000 series for my size boat, so potential overkill, but I like the overbuilt aspect.
NMEA interconnect. My chartplotter is a Garmin 620, so it only supported nmea0183, and the Evo takes nmea 2000, but it worked a treat with a balun.
S70 control interface is excellent and simple.
Wireless fob if you want one.
Cons;
Haven't mastered autotacking single handed with it. Boat seems washy, almost tacks too narrowly (90 is a fixed default). It could be my trim and not the autohelm, but it is getting annoying.
Doesn't recover from a knockdown, goes into standby.
Had to reconnect a loose wire in the ram head after the first outing when it died. Not hard to fix, but annoying to troubleshoot a brand new purchase.
Cost: $3K?? Thats the pack, includes control head, acu and hydraulic ram. Somebody check me on the price, but whitworths have them, so easy enough to google.

Case 2: NKE
I have just ordered a NKE autohelm for my new 40'. Totally different class, (and price bracket).
Pros:
The sensor input to the auotpilot is 20hz, compared to my Raymarine EVO at 1hz. Can also 1hz and all the inbetweens.
Handles complex inputs, it knows how, and can adjust the wind speed numbers from the masthead anemometer as it reads the heel angle from the gyro. Cool.
Man OB function: means if you fall off the boat with a wireless fob she will put herself in irons. Even has cool wrist strap fobs for kids options.
Cons:
To get the yuppie 20hz stuff, all your sensors must be 20hz stuff, so expensive. The regatta processor is $5K for example.
Cost: $15K. That's for the pack, same bom as the Raymarine really.

Not a tiller model it bolts onto the steering quadrant so if your cables break it still drives only time it wouldn't work is if your whole rudder fell off.
