HI guys I am new to the forum and yachting.I have recently purchased a small yacht that has been neglected for quite a while. The boat has been locked up for some time and the rain water has leaked in and left a horrendous smell and some mould. I am in the process of removing the cushions and will replace them soon.My question to you is how do I get rid of the smell and mould and get the cabin back to being habital. ![]()
use strong bleach (commercial strengh 25%) and spray on the mould, that will kill it and remove some of the smell.
Cheaper option is 30% chlorine to 70% water spray on and leave for 10 min, give the innards a good hosing and let the boat air out.Warning ,with any bleaching product exposed timber will discolour, so either remove timber or cover it well.
If timber has mould then you may need to treat it with a good timber reviver.
Good luck Ace
Cheers
Ken
P.S. Bleaching in inclosed areas can get you high![]()
Thanks for your advice will try the bleach trick as soon as the weather calms down. That goddam westerly wind we have been getting up here the last few weeks will blow a dog off the chain.
Catch you later John (the ace)![]()

might be worth not using bleach in a way thatll drench the hull.
