looking at the front page of a certain anarchaic sailing website they have a new CGI boat posted to drool over. but what are all the winches for ? Theres 8 winches on what looks like a 30 foot boat besides headsail trimming and kite trimming what are the other 4 for? I thought maybe halyards but even so theres still 2 others.

Just a guess....... Code Zero tack line, Code zero Halyard, Code zero sheet, (when changing from a kite or a headie), Traveller?, main downhaul winch that can be utilized for other things when clutched?, Daggerboards or foils? ..... Sailing is changing at such a RAPID pace right now its scary.

If it's a CGI boat then the winches are used for winching CGI sails and other paraphenalia. The graphic bloke was having fun and didn't know when to stop.

My 30 footer has 6 cockpit winches [4 on the rear of cabin top]. If I was silly enough to have running backstays I would have 8!
