wondering if anybody knows if the whiting 32 (half ton) has its fin bolted directly to the hull or is it attached to a keel stub?
thanks

I'm fairly sure its bolted to the hull directly.

Check out this page www.boatdesign.net/forums/sailboats/ In the thread on quarter tonners there are plenty of mentions on Whiting half and quarter tonners.
Search that page for the free download book on lightweight NZ racers called "Light Brigade" by Gary Baigent, its excellent.

Also on this page there is a half tonner section. www.histoiredeshalfs.com/index%20anglais.htm.

Hi kenbker

I used to sail on a 1/4 tonner in Brisbane when I was a kid called Onehunga Bus and it was a straight bolt-on keel, so perhaps Whiting's 1/2 ton designs were the same set-up?

Penny Whiting (his daughter I think??) is still very active in the sailing scene over in Auckland. Some Googling may be able to put you into contact with her.

Cheers

The Whiting 32 has the keel bolted with 4 keel bolts directly to the hull. The boat's that were built in WA had a steel ring frame glassed into the hull as well. This gave structural strength to the boat. Jack Tar has a modified bulb keel. Cheers DP
