Hey all you victorians.
Finally in Victoria, forecast is looking good for my first victorian sail.
Where should i go? Or where is everybody going?
Would like to meet some of the crew and check out the local spots.
B&J / Flat water
living in the city
ya might want to check out dendy st. Hampton or dawson st. elwood ya should find alot of fellas at thease spots, and alot of guys park over near the elwood yacht club..
Hi, Scully,
For B&J/flat water, you'd be best to sail before the wind comes up to the forecast 20-30kts. After about 20 kts on the Bay, the wind tends to form waves on the water, where wave boards come into their own.
Closest to you is Elwood, off Vautier St. Enter and turn left. The car parking is not free: about $8 for all day last time I looked and the parking officers pay regular visits. Most people rig near the Elwood sailing club, which is to the right of the first car park. Suggest don't leave valuables in view in your car.
About 1 km away is Dawson St. Drive down to the end of the street and park on the sides of the road. Parking is free. On good days, you might have to dump the gear that you are going to use, park the car, then walk back and rig up.
Dendy St. is about 4 kms away and people mostly park on the sides of St. Kilda Esplanade, near Norwood Avenue (if it's working, there'll be heaps of cars in the area). The gear is mostly taken down onto the rigging area in front of the toilet block where it is rigged. As low tide is about 2 pm today, watch out for Gilligan's Island right where you want to gybe in front of the rigging area and other rock shelves close to shore.
Hope this helps.
Now, all we need is for the forecast to be correct.
I couldnt figure out where i posted this!
Couldnt find it in the windsurfing vic forums :P
Ill see ya in elwood fellas
Scully,
Forgot to mention.
There is a device we use in Vic in winter, to extend our sailing time. It is called a WETSUIT javascript:insertsmilie('
'). Coming from Qld, you may not have heard of these devices. For our current water temp of 14 deg C, you might care to go to Repeat Performance (in Elwood), to purchase one, possibly sized 4/3.
Also, here's the link to the Bay winds (and the water temp. info): earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/engage/dynamic-earth-updates/bay-winds .
Hope this helps.javascript:insertsmilie('
