The Beatles, Donald Bradman and Bill Gates all spent ~ 10,000 hrs becoming the best at their trade. It's become the accepted number for the amount of practice required. Easy for a soccer player, just need a bit of room to practice dribbling every spare minute from the age of 10. But wind being so fickle, is it possible for a windsurfer? If not how good would we be if we could?

My estimate, at about 100 hrs a year for 3 decades is only about 3,000 hrs. But I think it was intended that you fit all the practice in just one of your most youthful decades.

What a coincidence - just finished the book this morning.

A good read - maybe check if your local library has a copy.

Cheers

Have averaged between 100 and 150 sessions per years for 27 years - 1 yr for injury, average session time approx 2 hrs

125 x 26 x 2 = 6500 hrs only a geuss could be more could be less????

Did you allow for all the leap years in your 47+ years?

I guess i would be similar - 30/31 yrs continuous sailing (winter and summer) behind a sailboard mast

And before that - 10yrs in various dinghys

I'm a classic example of practice doesnt make perfect..
Hopefully i will get it sorted soon

Not true there are stacks of golfers out there who have spent more time than that trying to perfect their game and are still clueless.

And the adjustments to the atomic clocks in that time as each year is about 0.25sec longer (or something, can't be bothered looking it up)

So have I .. not quite there yet.. Only good thing about age is you can work on perfecting things..I'm glad I paint. That's one thing I can continue to improve on once I'm too old to sail!

You'd need to average 1km/hr and I suspect your a bit faster than that Kato!

But in my last 5 years in the GTC I'm over 16,000kms, if you extrapolate that to the 20 years previous to that, I'm around 80,000 kms so I have to average 8km/hr. (not really valid, I've sailed more in the GTC)
May be possible if you take into account all the low wind wave sailing I've done over the years.
