Hi,
considering another sail, up from my largest a 6.7.
with a 460 mast, 220 boom and 40cm extension what sail size do you reckon I could go up to?
Cheers
Nasi
I have a 7.8m North Warp 2006 that rigs on a 460 mast with 40cms of extension.
Not sure about the boom but I think its about 225cm.
8.2 H2
Potentially 8.7 H2 with a 35cm extension but the boom is 223cm so you are just out of luck.
I had a similar problem as I only had a 210 boom and the sail went to 211. So I just drilled an extra hole
Hi Nasi,
only real propblem is your boom .
You can put some big sails on a 460 but if your maxing your boom out then it really is asking a lot from the boom at its very limits . best to buy a new boom and sail together . Chinook pro alloy or the gun sails booms are both good value. if your looking for a used sail then try the shops and see what they can do for you in regard to a good price for a boom .
all the best with it ,
Ant
Hi Nasi,
KA Koyote is worth a look. Strong, solid construction (X-ply) but still reasonably light. On a 460 you can go up to 7.4 or 8.2
8.2 specs Luff: 495 Boom:217 Mast: 460/25
cheers,
mick
Many of the newer sails run a shorter mast and have a boom cutout. My NP RSS 7.8m is a 212 boom, 460 mast with 22 extension.
This or something similar would be a set up that would work with your current hardware.
I have an Ezzy Freeride 7.5 circa '08 (all X-ply, no cams)
Luff 494
Boom 208
Mast 460 or 490
I use a 460 + 35cm-40cm xtension. The '09 ones max luff 491, max boom 212 with a 460 mast. You'll $hit it in with either year...dunno about 2010/11 though, I have no specs.
I love the low down power of this sail and it's controllable in winds nudging over 20 knots, could go stronger but my skills aren't up there yet to hold down this big sail and it feels stable at this speed. It is light and nicely balanced and feels like a 6.0-6.5! I'm 100kg.
I'm also looking for something bigger around 8.5-9.0 but I think I'm going to need a longer mast 490-520.![]()
