Going to Airlie Beach for a holiday May/June. What are the best flat water sailing areas? Is there anywhere I can hire gear from?
If your driving up bring your gear with you, nothing to hire,
Also if your driving keep going past the Airlie turn off and go another 45mins to Bowen, Airlie's wind is very shifty and land affected, Most of the Kiter's in Airlie come to Bowen every weekend.
You might be able to hire some resort gear on the islands but if you want to do some serious windsurfing Bowen is the go, We have moderatley flat to great bump and jump and small wave conditions,
I don't know of any regular windsurfers in Airlie but there is any where from 2 to 8 of us here in Bowen, plus the gays on trays.![]()
Hey Wormy,
Thanks for the info bumma as I am flying. Too far to drive from Vic
Do any of the guys that sail at Bowen have any old gear that they may be willing to hire for a day or two? I haver just posted a wanted ad up.
I'll do some hunting, may take a week or two to do the rounds, but I'll let you know as soon as I come up with something.![]()
The resorts will not let you go out on their gear if the forecast is for 20 knots and above so the gear sits on the beach with the attendant telling you that no it is only 10 Knots at the moment but it could blow up.Not worth the hassle.
