I have a new Severne Gator that has an ajustable head.
I am finding that everyitme I tighten the head for zero extension of the head, by the time I apply full downhaul it has moved/stretched 2 or 3cm.
I then have to do the downhaull again... Now I have been adding a extra two and half centremetes to the extension.
Is this normal? Is there a way to get rid of the ajustable head, or make sure that it does not move from a zero setting. I don't need the ajustable feature as my mast is the correct length.
Tie a knot in the extra length of the webbing somehow. I find that the webbing slips quite frequently -> with the knot, no more slippage.
If it'll fit, feed the webbing back through the top of the buckle part.
Knots are a mongrel to get out after they've been in for a while, are full of sand, and have had mad tension on them.
with base of the free end tie a half hitch around the buckle or whatever.
Won't slip, and easy to undo. Works for me.
It is normal for the webbing to stretch,especially if you are running it fairly long.
What I did on my KA Koyote is pull the strap on super hard so the cap fitting dissappeared into the head of the sail. Then I applied mega downhaul. It stretched a bit but the cap is in pretty much the correct position. As everything has tightened up now it doesn't slip and I haven't had to touch it since.
If it really pisses you off you could take it to a sailmaker and get them to remove the adjustable head and sew the webbing on normally.
