I use Sony Vegas Pro, it was filmed using just the hero3 in 2.7k @30fps with Protune on. The color grading is my own presets that I've created to spice it up a bit.

Thanks to all that liked it, I need some new stars for my vids if anyone wants to carry a camera just let me know. Even I can only watch so much of me sailing..

Cheers

I picked up a Hero3 Black on the weekend, still trying to work it all out though. Have been filming in 720 @ 120fps for the slow motion but trying to find a good editing package. I'm on Mac and I think I am dropping a bit of quality in iMovie.

It's a harness mount made by K4, It does require you to bolt it on straight through your harness. It's a sweet shot though....Now only if I could loop

I'm not to savvy in the details but it could be in the settings, All video is compressed when rendered but how much is normally governed by the software. I notice that to get maximum quality I use anything in 1080 but it must be at 16mb/s, iI I render at anything less there is a noticeable quality drop. You must also make sure the frame rates match or it can cause issues as well. Then it comes down to the power of your computer, This project took 2 hours to render the final file. It will take time if you want high quality. Most sites only let you upload at 720 anyways so there's not much point doing it at 1080 as they just covert it back to 720 anyway. Make a small clip and try different settings until you find something that's right, Trial and error...That's how I did it

Cheers.

psst - no one can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. And all your renders will go a lot faster.

in fact i post most of my videos in SD and no one even notices...

shoot for color, contrast and dynamic range (ie dont shoot into the sun) and your footage will look very sweet.

On a mac i cant recommend Final Cut x enough (and this is coming from 10 years on Final cut 5 through 7) - if you are serious about your videos its well worth the money and a few days to get around the software.

X is a massive leap forward in editing technology. Makes Vegas and premiere (and final cut 7) look like they are from the dark ages.

Its all about the magnetic timeline which lets you keep soundtrack beat match snyc while dancing around with Split audio edits, j edits and b-roll.

Basically the software gets out of the way and lets you do your story telling like never before. The shot organisation method and meta data handling is second to none - all this is important once your project has more than 20 shots in it.

And if you record separate audio (straight to a lav mic and zoom h1 in your talent's pocket for example) Final Cut X looks at the audio wave forms / matches them off your camera's reference audio and snaps the sound file to sync with the video.

It will also automatically transcode your go pro footage to pro res )in whatever flavour you like - but even the lowest bit rate of pro res is excellent) in a way that avoids beginners having to do it themselves and screwing it up.

one click of the keyboard and your 720 p 120 fps footage is conformed to play back at 25 fps (so you get beautiful 500% slo mo that is frame perfect)

Hell you can even do a hand held dolly move- wide ish angle lens please and a steady hand- and Final Cut will stabilise it so it looks like it came off a Dolly!

But at the end of the day - its not the software that makes something interesting - its the concept , the shot execution and the editing decisions.

Sorry, I understood none of that...

No seriously, You have always been very helpful to me and I could never invest the time that you have into your craft. I don't have the patience or knowledge that you guys do, just shoot edit post for me.

Thanks Matt for all the tips, It does help

I moved from final cut 7 to X and it was the best move i made for film making ever! So much more intuitive and it is a very aesthetically pleasing piece of software. If it confuses you at first, YouTube it and you will be adept in no time! :D
