Hit a ray the other day and bent one arm of my Chinook Slalom boom. Was going to get a new arm but noticed that one side of the tail piece had a slight curve in it bending off about 5mm in the 800mm length of the tail.

Can anyone tell me if this is anything to worry about or would it be better to scrap the boom?

I bent an aeron that ended up with about a 10mm deviation, used it for the rest of the season, sold it to a mate who was learning, he has since used it for 2 seasons. This is on flat water/chop not waves though.

I would guess that there is little to worry about if the tail will still go in and out okay, use it as a backup and treat yourself to a nice shiny new one

I've got 2 spare arms for a Gunn boom (head & tail pieces were RS).

Doesn't help with your chinook, but thought I'd just put it out there in case someone else was in same situation.

This is your chance to tell the wifey that your boom is in danger of breaking and that if she really loved you and wanted you to come home after a sail without having to swim in, she should let you buy a new one and keep that one as a spare.....

.....that is if your situation is the same as every other married blokes I know
