Finally someone has built a quad for us big guys, OES has quads from 60L up to 120L and claim that the bigger boards have the same wave riding ability of their smaller boards. The bigger sizes start at 100L and increase by 5L up to the 120L board, I don't know what a 120L quad will be like but it will help get me out on those light wind days. I hope that other manufactures follow suit and build bigger wave boards for the sailors like me that are a bit on the chubby side.
I can see how this could be a problem. I used to sail with a guy who was 100kg and some days he really struggled while I was cruising on similar gear to his. The difference a few kilos makes is quite remarkable. By the way I'm 75kg.
This topic has been talked to death here... it's a big can of worms you might not want open. ![]()
BTW, there are a number of other manufacturers that have 100+ boards for wave riding:
RRD 99 Twin Wave, Exocet 105 Wave, JP 99 Single Thruster, Naish 105 Global.
I have heard from a few people that next season we will see a few more. In addition to having gone up in board size last season I also work on my "excess baggage" and trimmed 24 kgs off the waist line (previously 110kg+) and I'll tell you it makes a gigantic difference. Apart from the obvious floatation issues it overall requires a lot less effort even when sailing overpowered.
I know that sounds strange but I think in waves what really counts in order to hold down a bigger sail is body height rather than weight.
A few tips for loosing the weight... stop drinking, cut portions in half and stop the junk food. Studies show that for normal people regulating food intake will have better long term impact on body weight than levels of exercise.
Meh, big guys wave riding gear? If its that lighter wind that its needed then I reckon an SUP with a sail is a better bet. Come over to the dark side ....... you know you want to.[}:)]
Im using the starboard 11-4 as an SUP it also has two mast positions in it. Im not suggesting that you can rip it up on one of these but bloody hell they are incredible fun. I wouldnt want to have a big wipeout on one though as I reckon the mast insert would last about 2 seconds.
yea it suck for us big fellas, cause im a super fit 105kgs grrrrrr and just got a custom board made which is awesome on a waves but still a little small so im having a sniff at these oes quads hmmmmmm now to hide it from the wife hehehehe
^^^...and it matches so well with the silver thongs, man-bag & Cosmo mag...sweety!![]()
Just kidding (& jealous...those thongs & bag are 'to die for!
).
Nice board btw!![]()
