I'm so happy! ![]()
Finally got a chance to break something - it's been probably a year since the last time I broke bit of gear! (OK, so I broke a rental mast in Vietnam last month, but rentals don't count) The wind's been so lousy recently, despite the NE monsoon, , and just these last 2 days it got decent.
Life is good! ![]()
I also figured out how to jury-rig a broken boom in order to sail back to shore; photo coming soon.
How do you break a boom? ![]()
There are many ways to approach this, so many means to the same end...in my case, I did it by being a big 95kg b@$t@rd on a big board, way overpowered in big chop. That'll usually do it.
Chinook boom, btw, less than a year old. My previous Chinook was probably 4 years old when it died. I think the quality's dropped; this new one seemed wobbly from the start. And it broke at the back end! Most unusual...
no no no, that's a lot of work in choppy seas, and you still have only half a boom. Not so good! Especially if you need to tack at some point on the way back in!
Guess again...?
count yourself lucky we had the first big day for months just recently and in all my excitement i managed to break a mast and three sails in about four hours! If i had the choice though......I'd do it all again!
