Hi Polies
If anyone has a smashed mast with what ever you call that thing-a-ma-jig that would hold it down on to an old Sonic 268 Wave Board I could make very good use of it.
Or if that board is still any good to anyone??? (no idea here) I would consider swapping it for any old board you have - with whats left of a 4' to 5' of mast still attached. Only condition is it has to be big enough to look like a SUP (from a distance).
I was thinking of using the Sonic as a beginner paddle-in board to get me back into real surfing (after a 40 year break!) - but a few have suggested thats not such a good idea
.
Now just have plans for it as a static display - hence this weird post.
You sure know how to get people onside. Like walking up to a black dude in America and asking "Hey boy, can you tell me where I can get me some fried chicken?".
Sorry - something missed in translation obviously.
It was a very friendly intended message - along with an offer of a possible swap for something possibly useful? for something you may have which is definitely not.
What did I say wrong - I love you guys.
I'm very much a 'we are all wind lovers together' type. Been pushing your heritage amongst kiters for your ROW at Woodies Beach 2 for years.
defo no offence meant - at all.
I don't think the 268 was a wave board, the 250, 255 and 260 were... but I'm sure that range that is all they did in waveboards... the 268 was the crossover board and precursor to the Sonic 'RodeoStyle' freestyle board. From memory (which is failing and it was 15yrs ago) ![]()
Anyway, I digress. What do you actually want?
To get rid of it? I'll have it
Use the bit of mast for a beach rod holder, much higher performance than a bit of PVC.
Perhaps I (or Woodys - we share the same body) need to explain.
I happen to have a windsurfing Sonic 268 Wave Board (thats what it says on the deck?).
My plan is to use it as a static display item with a human dummy on board to advertise water sports outside a display at an upcoming event.
All that it is required of the board is that it is large (the larger the better) & is generally surfboard-ish shaped.
A windsurf board is ideal as it has the ability to carry the shortened mast which would be used to secure the dummy firmly in place. Simple as that.
As I was writing the post I just happened to think that if my board was still an item someone was happy to use (its in fair condition but I had no idea how old it is or how out of date it may be) then for my purposes I would be just as happy with some big old dinged up barge that really is worthless.
Same same to me for my purpose. As long as I end up with a big board & a secure 5' piece of mast to fit I would be happy.
I guess at 15yrs of age it probably is worthless to all. So Im still chasing a bit of a mast & a deck fitting to match the old Sonic board.
Your only problem will be the "deck fitting".
Mast bases have a universal joint, so are flexible and wont hold your dummy upright.
You will need to construct some sort of solid connection if you want to support the dummy with the broken mast piece.
Thanks grumple.
DOH! - should have worked that out - even with my ignorance of windsurfing practice.
After upsetting everyone yesterday I have been mulling over ideas of using the mast slot as fixing point for some poly pipe or similar.
Shouldnt be too difficult.
Might even be able to use the foot straps?
..................back to the kiting & SUP forum
Just spade bit a hole into the board, glue a broom stick into the hole, then jam the dummy onto the pole!
I wont go into how the pole should be inserted into the dummy ![]()
