Yahoo!!!!
we have sailable water in Waranga basin, Lake Eppalock, and Cairn Curran Res.
However, there are some issues with vegetation that has grown during the drought and care close to shore should be taken for submerged trees etc.
For Lake Eppalock the best weather readings are from the Redesdale AWS on the BOM site and if it averages 17kts SE-SW then it is a go.
The Kimbolton pool is best for kiting and windsurfing at the Swimming area.
Cairn Curran is best in Sth to westerly winds, from the Yacht club or the far side Boat ramp.
At both lakes, beware or floating logs, the logs that used to lay on bottom as fish habitats, dried out and until they saturate again are floating. Sometimes the log is a whole tree with a sliver viewable.
See you on the water.
Gee Tony,
You've highlighted out all the good points - what about the bad ones ?
How much water is in eppalock, is it flowing out of the spillway yet and what about Green lake, should i invest in a weed fin ?
Eppalock is 57% full so fully back to sailable . No weeds, just trees and bushes, which if you attack with your fin, a weed fin will not help.
Greens Lake is a irrigation storage lake and filled for Summer, it's going up but has to be over 90% to not be launching in clay the sticks to fins like..........
this picture if taken now would have water lapping at tyres.
Since last post I think that pic would be under water now.
And I also remember those boats and a 21' everingham called Happy Hooker, taking it right to them.
Burrumbet has even filled up at Ballarat quite alot, about 90% goverage would be a reasonable depth out in the middle. floods bad for some gold for others this may save me driving all the way to geelong for a quick sail. shame that the air temp its a bit to chilly yet...
Wendouree is about 80% and being filled by Central Highlands Water, at this stage its a bit weedy and may have some A class recycled water in it, so it needs a health check but will be 100% by about Nov with continued replenishment. Learmonth will be slow to fill is only about 25cm deep with 70% cover the experts beleive that it will not fill this year, bit of a bummer as its the best of the three lakes.
