Have a board with a deep Tuttle box. Understand there is no problem using a standard Tuttle fin in a deep Tuttle box. I’m looking at a Z fin which has both tuttle and deep Tuttle options. Is there anything to be gained by getting the deep Tuttle option over the standard? Cheers
Deep tuttle is normally for longer fins giving a larger surface area to resist the leverage of the fin.
It also depends on whether you want to use the fin on another board and whether that is DT or not.
As mr Elmo says ,DT will carry a bigger fin like the Z .Fins ...deep Tuttle is stronger ,if your using 42 and over maybe it is worth getting .also using 8,5 sails it feels more firm under foot ,eg ,Isonic ,73 wide has deep Tuttle ,67 wide normal Tuttle .
Patrik 120 litre boards up will usually have a deep Tuttle .Both DT and Tuttle work fine ...
Standard Tuttle works fine in a Deep Tuttle box. Deep Tuttle is mainly just stronger for higher loads like big sails and faster sailing but for most normal use there is no real performance benefit over standard.
Deep Tuttle happened when race boards got wider in the late 90s. Running windward/leeward courses meant that the person who could control the biggest fin often got to the top mark first. Fin sized jumped from 2x to 4x (and ultimately up to 70) as the wider boards gave us better leverage. When the fins got into to mid 40s, we started blowing up standard Tuttle boxes. Deep Tuttle addressed this.
If you are using a fin bigger than something like 43, Deep Tuttle is highly recommended.
Fin is 34cm. As the board is deep Tuttle I’m just wondering if there is any advantage to getting a DT fin e.g stiffer overall setup etc. Don’t intend on using it for any other board.
You'll be lucky to find a 34 DT .I found a 37 DT carbon fin for my 73 Isonic ,solid as a rock when fitted and short bolts .😎.also have 41 ,45 .all DT .
Can you really have too many fins ...nah ....👍

None whatsoever- Tuttle is fine up to high 40's at least. The only downside is the crazy long bolts you're going to need and prob cut to length
With a 37 you can think about a deep tuttle. I have some around that size.
Above 42 it is highly recommended.

That’s what I’m thinking Mark. It’s surprisingly hard to find stainless 306 bolts longer than 90mm (especially if you want hex heads)
EBay or Ali etc straight outa China
I've bought M6 x 150 before. bolt shops should have them but if you can wait then $10 for a handful is better than $10 ea
