Do any of you guys go for these electronic shark repellents. Pricey, looks cumbersome but was interesting. Friend mentioned his spear fishing mate uses something like it.
They dont work it's like putting some thing in front of a road train, nothing stops jaws![]()

and a thumb down
even if they do work around you, your just pissing off a shark with electric shocks for everyone else near you.
That is unless he comes back for ya when the batterys go flat
A couple of guys I know swear by these and wear the individual ones while diving. They say the shark shield has been tested. One negative is that it is possible to zap yourself.
A mate who spearfishes uses one. He reckons that they actually attract sharks in the area to you (they are attracted by the electrical impulses) then stop at ~ 10m distance. Personally I would prefer not to see any sharks at all ![]()
He also said you get a pretty nasty shock if you forget to turn it off before climbing back into the boat.
One of the local boys tried one out at Sellicks one day - attached to his back leg on the run out - gybed and then the electric current probe / wire trailled over his back foot and zapped him - experiment failed. But it still brings a smile to my face thinking about it
