From posts I read on here it seems there are a lot of people who invest (or is it waste?) as much and far more money than me on windsurf gear! Does anyone insure all this gear?

It makes me fully nervous that non of my kit is covered at the moment but I can't find any insurance companies that cover windsurf kit.

Any recommendations of places that do windsurf insurance?

Thanks.

I remember seeing a post a while back about this subject, and recall that maybe GIO offer some sort of insurance. Maybe have a look through previous topics, it bound to be there somewhere.

I had a home contents / personal effects policy through Westpac. This covers the gear anywhere in Aust. except when in use on the water.

Thanks for the tips.

So are others not insuring your gear? Am I just being paranoid?

Same as Waiting4wind but with Suncorp. You have to keep it updated if you change gear and make sure everything is specified as you wrote it. I've yet to try and claim though (hopefully never have to) so I'm not sure how effective the cover is.

Yes GIO DID insure windsurfing gear but when they got taken over by some Qld F#@%#*@k company it became "against company policy" to insure windsurfing equipment. Damn shame cause they were a bloody good insurer (3 decent claims over 7 years and they paid out no fuss.)
Mine is still insured with them but they wont add any new gear to the list.
On a good note WESTSURE do insure windsurfing gear they have said and they are a bit cheaper than GIO. You itemise your gear and add it to your house and contents. Thats the way I will go next year.
Westsure is part of Westfarmers I believe. I did some insurance work for them a few years back and was gobsmacked how quickly they paid my account.

My two bobs worth.

I have it covered on my home policy with Alliance - They have removable items insurance, and I checked and my windsurfing gear would be covered under that without being specified up to a value of $2500 per item and i think $7000 per claim (values might be slightly different). But covers accidental damage and theft - though not damage while in use.
