Hi all,

Looking at buying some kind of bucket surf hat to use this summer when sailing formula (I wear a Gath for slalom sailing).

What is everyones favourite, that doesnt fall off, and where the brim doesnt flick up when you get going? There are lots of options out there, and don't want to buy something that really only works for surfing.

cheers

It stays on your head really well, doesn't cost too much, and looks just grandadly enough to lull everybody else into a sense of false security ... until you bust a forward as you pass them at mach 3.

Bucket hat with chinstrap. FCS brand I believe. Almost identical to that above. Cost $30 from a surf shop.

Get one with a stiff brim. I've seen floppy ones that just flip up or bend down over your eyes when it's windy.

My new summer cap:

edit: I really am going to be wearing the above, but for a bit of fun, and $200, you can pick up one of these ex MIG pilot helmets instead of a Gath helmet:

Same type as Gorgo, but it's a Quicksilver, and works well.

I used to wear straw hats for sailing but they fall apart too quickly.

Currently use a North Face wide brimmed hat made out of some sort of synthetic material. I prefer wide brimmed hats to keep the sun off my neck.

I found a picture the above picture one here, where they sell online. I bought mine in Moscow. I've yet to actually use it in the water.
