Was rigging up yesterday and I got to wondering about why fins have what appears to be handwritten technical specs on them. Curious to know what the details mean and why they're handwritten - must be something of a novelty in an age where everything is mass produced by lasers and computers

Probably as when they are coming out of the CNC machine the plebs in the factory don't know what they are as they don't windsurf and there is nothing printed on it yet to identify what model it is.
Plus it is hard to tell the difference between 21cm and 22cm at a glance.
That, or maybe they are stacked in racks with the tip down and it is easy to read what they all are?
I suspect the details are handwritten because each fin is made by an 8 year old child for the princely fee of a cup of rice. It cheaper and easier than a machine, I think the numbers refer to serial number model and date of manufacture, but a may be wrong.
Handwritten on a template, then printed onto every fin by a machine, is my explanation. It just makes the fin look more pimp.
Some boards have the same thing going... like Thommen boards for example.
