So, in yesterday's fun and frivolity, I pulled a footstrap out of my board. Totally stripped the thread in the plug insert. Are there any proven solutions?
Araldite?
Masonry plugs?
try plastibond - fill the holes then re-drill with a small hole and put screw back in.
Araldite can work but can be a bit brittle...
Only other option is sticky tape and uhu glue!
Nothing like resins etc will bond well enough.
Temporary measure if nobody near you sells stainless screws: bung a couple of match sticks in the hole and screw back in. Will be tight enough.
Then as hoop said, get a screw one gauge bigger. Aways worth having a couple in your box of bits and tools anyway then it is a quick fix on the beach and you're away sailing again
Hmm, thanks guys.
Great find Dave! I'll chase that one up, but it sounds like the Loc-tite solution is for metal -> metal threads. My inserts are plastic. Failing that, I'll give the bigger screw a go. In the meantime, I've just moved my strap to the back setting.
All I have to do now is find a new boom. ![]()
edit: just re-read the starboard site ![]()
really does permanently restore the threads in stripped out plastic inserts, such as the footstrap insert threads
Just don't do what I did and try to do too many at one time. I started filling some of the holes and moving onto others.
By the time I got to some of the screws the glue had set... Careful use of a drill solved that problem, but I think it would be smarter to do one hole at a time and put the screw in straight away.
