Hi,
Been having a ball on my JP FSW (2004) this season but am feeling the need for more speed.
I usually sail my 5.2 Loft Freestyle sail or a 4.6 wave sail and it currently has a 22" waveish looking powerbox fin in it (came with the board)
Any suggestions for size and brand of fin that will do the job? I am not really into wave or freestyle that much, prefer going fast and big floaty jumps. I weigh in at 70 kg.

Got a Maui Finco 31cm freewave for my 92 litre evo for light winds and it works a treat up to 4.7 - 6.4m S2 (90Kg sailor) - they come in 28 and 25 I think.
Fairly straight but still manouverable on a wave/B&J - used it on a Kombat 96l for a while and it worked well on that. I thnk they come in PBox and US box.
Of coarsei gouged it when I hit the reef on the first outing - as I always do with a new fin no matter where I am - It could be the only rock for a mile and I'll still find it
i second the mfc freewave. although the sail range for the 25cm is only stated as 3.7 to 4.7 my dad has comfortably used it with a 6.2. they are upright and have a pretty thin profile so they are fast and power upwind easily.
the doldrums got to me last year so I got a 36cm JP freeride fin for my JP FS and I reckon it gives me about 3Knots more range over the standard 24 cm Freestyle fin. I was dubious about it being so big but it has turned out perfect for me on light days. Took a while to get used to the length, I seemed to trip on it in the gybes and catch it on jumps but once used to it I was pleased with the increased sailing I could do. Almost like getting a bigger board.
I have a 2005? FSW 91 and have put a flying objects weedster 26cm fin on it if you are looking for flatwater speed I have had it over 38knots with 6.6 KA koncept
The carve 29cm JP fin gives it a bit more get up and go than the freestyle wave fin 27cm that mine came with. But it doesn't turn as well on the wave. Move the straps back as well as the mast track for speed. But be careful as it does not sail as well in ocean chop with the straps right back.
The Maui Finco sounds good, 25 cm shouldn't be too much to handle in my 77l fsw. I can give the slalom guys a good run for their money with the current 22 cm wave fin but can feel the fin holding me back. Starts to spin out on flat stick runs or when you load it up to get up wind.
Would the 25 be faster than the 27? Which one for better jumps?
Thanks heaps for the suggestions.
technically smaller fins have less drag so i guess the smaller one is faster. 25cm should be plenty for 77L board i think. the biggest fin i ever use is 25 cm and i put a 6.5 on that.
i have a couple of mfc freewave fins.
they really are superb fins. don't spin out, are fast for a wave fin, go upwind well and turn really well, but they are freeride wave fins and won't be as fast as a fin based on a slalom outline and profile. for wave and bump and jump i reckon they are as good as it gets though. the only thing i don't like about the freewace is that they are not g10.
if it is more of a slalom outcome you are looking for why not try the mfc liquid pro. sounds to me like that is more what you are after.
the other option would be the K-one. i haven't tried on but they sound sweet for the smaller sized wave fins!
