Hey guys, new topic for active freestylists.

What rig should I get for my son - 14yo, 120 pounds, 5'8" - on a Goya 105L. He already freestyles (tries to) on larger boards. I want him to be underpowered, in the ranges of 10-17 knots say, but mostly targetting 14-15 knots. One rig fits all, though I know it's not possible.

So what are the sail brands, very few really...

I definitely want the mast to be light, a pet peeves of mine, but damn some of those skinny are heavier than big ones...

Thanks in advance.

I know a kid of same age and similar size here who is using a 5.0 gaastra poison as his 1 sail for pretty much everything. I think his board is a starboard S-type either 95 or 105 lt.

i know a few guys who are awesome at freestyle and they love the Severne S1's and you run a redline 400 mast on them, super lite rig..

Loft 360 free is another.

What really riles me is that those sites - North, Severne, Loft, Naish, etc., don't have a chart with models versus use. You have to click one at a time and read tedious text to figure possible use for the models.

Yeah, I have a Severne Superlight (in a different context), and love it. They now have the XS-1 that's more oriented FS. Considering...

someone else: My advice would be to wait for 2010...

You gotta be kidding, right? There are great tubes and moves right now as we speak, so there must be good equipment out there...

Plus, life is now...

You're right about XS, didn't realize they were so small.

> last year's moves being good (and 10 years)

It's as if it was the sailor and not the gear...

I hear 2011 gear's gonna be even better !
And so on.

are you still in the states? if so, have a look around for a Naish Ripper, real sails built for small people. if you have ever seen what Kai and Bernt are doing on them in maui then you should know that they are perfect for top level sailing...
and now they have made the Boxer a big kids version...

Yeah, looking at the Boxer too. And I have a good deal on an Ezzy brand new but 2008, and so on. Damn it's light.

Anyhow, plenty of choice now, once I've deciphered the web sites.

Just that he wants to F/S makes me happy.
Thanks all.

Ended up being an Aerotech Air-X 5.2m.
Spoke to the local PWA guy here, who convinced me to tone it down a notch.

You wouldn't care to post a review of the Air-x would you Pierre?
I'm a bit leary of Aerotechs generally since the adhesive failed in the seams of the last one I owned.

Will do, as I intend to use it also (technically not my equipment).
Intend to beat the absolute cr*p out of it.
