Hi everyone just looking for some advice.

Lately i had some great sails and improved HEAPS. I'm starting to move prity quick now (i think) and was thinking that a GPS would be a good idea, quite interesting and a bit of fun. Someone has suggested the GT-11 as a good unit and i was just looking for some more advice and other types that might work well.

I'm also looking to use the GPS speed sailing site and also the GPS team challenge (if anyone will take me into a team) so would like it to run through the computer aswell. Therefore an accurate one that both will accept would be good.

Now also what kind of price range am i looking at and also where abouts can i get them. Are there online sites which are a good option to get them cheaply or maybe ebay? Is there a second hand market for them at all, keeping in mind that i don't really want to be stuck with old technology?

Would appriciate some help here thanks.

Cheers

You would get a better response in the GPS forum bubs.

Check it anyway, there's been a few postings lately about the advantages of the GT11.

The GT11 is right on, at the moment it's easily the most accurate in it's price bracket, and also the cheapest, somewhere between about $200, with aquapack and sd card. (And SD card may not be absolutely necessary)

Gpss is going to doppler only soon and at the moment, unless you want to spend a fair bit more, only the GT11 records doppler.

Don't think you'll have any trouble getting in a team, but if you do have trouble, you only need 1 other person and you can even start your own.

Most windsurfing shops now stock them, and a quite a few will sell online.

I don't think the GT11 has been around long enough to get one secondhand, unless somebody has given up the idea of speedsailing.

Go for it Bubs!

GPS speedsailing is incredibly addictive and it's fantastic having an objective measure of how much you're improving from one session to the next.

First you'll be chasing peak speeds (adrenaline!), then you'll be trying to improve your alpha's (gybing skill), then it's the challenge of nailing a good one hour result (endurance & fitness). In summary it will improve every aspect of your sailing.

Check out Surf Sail Australia for online sales, range from $219 to $290 with SD card and aquapac.
Johnnyappleseed do them as well, haven't checked their prices lately.
I've just hooked up with a team also but haven't got my GPS yet.
Minister for War and Finance is being frugal at the moment.

I have a secondhand one you can have for $10..

Mind you it doesn't work on account of going for an unaccompanied swim, all on its own.

Paid $189 for a replacement from Windforce.

Sounds good thanks for the support and help everyone. Seems like i'm just going to have to get out there and buy one. Then take it for a sail and see how well i really do go.
