They have got balls to ride those waves in the first place but not as impressive as JP ripping the same waves to pieces and he doesn't have an ejection lever, handle, to pull if it goes wrong and float off the back of the wave. If he gets it wrong he eats it big time which i recon definitely means it takes more balls to do it on a windsurfer, his gonads come in a dump truck
Funny thing is that Kai Lenny who (is probably the only one that) windsurfs actually ditches his kite

Wannabe's, I think not. Alex Aguera is one of the pioneers of windsurfing.
I don't think it is as cool as wavesailing Jaws, but judging by the footage you couldn't wavesail there on the day anyway, it's all about being on the right gear for the day and it would seem they were.
Slightly amusing Buster that you take the mickey out of that thread and imply that poleys do a better job on Jaws, did you read the thread? half the kiters that posted had already conceded that poleys do a better job out there and there is a long way to go in kiting big waves.
As long as the sledging is in good humour and goes both ways, it's good fun. My boss is one of those old, out-dated poleys and he is stuck in an office full of kiters. poor bast**d ![]()
^^
plus, he can probably post the word bastard unedited on Seabreeze like myself, whilst your bastard gets bleeped to bast**d.
What a bastard, not being able to post 'bastard' (and also working in an office).
From a new comer to wind surfing perspective, I find it funny there's actually this tension between kiters and "poleys". All a bit odd to me, but anyway, in surfing we're not quite as discrinimant, we tend to hate everyone equally...![]()
As for heading out to surf Jaws when it's 20 ft, that takes balls, no matter what you ride! Hats off to the brave.
Chris6791 works in a cubicle and his boss is a poley. Scissors has been staying back with the catholic priest.
Is anyone else having trouble understanding what these guys are arguing about?
I think the video clearly illustrates that kiteboarding in waves is mostly a case of being dragged down the wave by the kite. The only thing in common with surfing is the fact that they use a directional board... that's about it.
Very biased opinion here but i think that when you watch a video like that on those sorts of waves windsurfing is a much better spectator sport than surfing yet look at all the sponsorship money and TV coverage etc that surfing gets and windsurfing gets jack s*#t. It looks like the surfers spend the whole ride just trying to stay in control and get away from the wave with a few exceptions but the windsurfers actually ride the wave and do wicked bottom turns to go back for more. I know what i would rather watch
I disagree that mostly kitesurfing in waves is a case of bein dragged around. I have seen some kitesufing in some very critical parts of the wave, admitedly though this seems to be only achievable by a few, very good riders.
Your right, surfing Pe'ahi, especially paddle surfing it doesn't really grab me as exciting. But surfing somewhere like Teahupoo, now thats a different story. So we have a few waves that we can make look better, but surfing has heaps. And lets face it, no surfers are getting rich from just riding Pe'ahi.
