I got back into sailbaording after a 6year break at the beginning of last season.I recalled blasting along effortlessly hooked in ,in the straps..but could never seem to recapture that feeling..It just seemed like hard work & I started to think either my memory was getting foggy with age & maybe it never was that good or i was just too old.
THANK YOU TABOU!!!
Step up hook in , into the straps & just blast effortlessly..go into gybes confidently knowing the board will carve beautifully & even if I stuff up I can still wobble out the other side..
Rigged a bit bigger than I usually would 5.7m in gusty 15-18kts & downhauled it heaps.Set of on my first run & ooh...whats that big black fin out in the centre... gybe & back into shore to watch jaws saunter off a bit & then back out..I wasnt going to let a shark wreck my first decent sail! Mind you all I could think about was B sharks & I fell off heaps as I was trying new things + the @##$% harness lines pinged off twice & sent me flying so I was kicking around in the water fixing them before I could water start. Felt good to know I had a stable uphaul platform if mr shark decided to change course & come back for a look.
Didnt get a chance to jump much as the @#$$ harness lines pulled out to the 30 inch length on that side so i could hardly sail..I ended up coming in & putting electrical tape around the webbing so it would jam in the jaws ( pardon the pun) & not slip..I did one jump on my bad side & stuffed the landing & ended up still holding the rig that had flown over the front but still in the straps..ouch..I think my right thigh is now 6" longer than my left. Prob dont need a nose portector didnt even look close to it but too late now as its paid for.

Havent had a sail like that since the 90's..Im addicted again!!

Yeah I had a similar feeling when I first took out my Tabou Rocket after having a Bombora 270 for about 10 years.

Sboard, that's a great run down on a great day
Even for us stuck cos no wind, injured or what ever, its just a blast to read that somebody has just cracked a great day. Well done and thanks for the post.
One of the Mandurah Mob from the GPSTC who also has the Rocket, will read this and his grin will get bigger, and the start salivating knowing only a couple more ore trains to move, and he will be back home for another blast on his Rocket while on break.

Whereabouts were you sailing? in the lake? Fortunately I have just seen dolphins up our end of the lake (north)!

Glad you got a good sail and like the new board!

cheers

Very happy for you!! think you are a lot gamer than me, while i'm not scared of sharks I wouldn't keep sailing after i actually saw a fin. More power to you. Now we just need to sort out those harness lines for you. Being able to relax into your gear is while blasting is a truly great feeling and i have only managed to get a similar feeling from big long carving turns in ankle deep powder snow.
I once had a most amazing ride in Jervis Bay with dolphins jumping over the front of my board.
Happy Sailing :-)

Wow now that would be a sail to remember! I remember back in the 80's sailing our boat into Jervis bay lying on the foredeck & almost touching dolphins escorting us in.Got a photo too..
