Does anyone rig the 2010 hellcat 8.2 on a 460 mast? I'm keen to get the sail but really don't want the hassle of a 490 mast. The 2011 hellcat looks like its just out of reach for a 460 mast but the 2010 version could fit in theory.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Not quite the same, but I rig a 2010 hellcat 7.2 on an X6 430 (recommended 460) with approx 34cm extension. I was concerned it may not work well, but I have found it rigs as nicely as my hellcat 6.2 which is on its recommended mast. Sail feels great and looks nice when rigged. I think you will be fine.

Thats only 36cm of extension.
It should be fine.
It will be slightly softer than with a 490 but that will give you more low end grunt. you just loose a touch off the top end.

For the 8.2 the 2010 would be 42cm and 2011 would be 47cm extension. Seems quite a lot to me but never tried to use that sort of extension length before.

Wouldn't a softer mast make it flatter?

KA Koyote 8.2 is made for a 460 mast. Its in the same league as the hellcat.

Ka coyote looks interesting (if hard to find) but not sue about the full x-ply on a sail this size, surely doesn't help with weight.

So rather than the 46 in theory you could get an 8.2 hellcat on a 430 - use the NP 42cm x-tender and then about 30cm of extension. Seems like a mad option... Anyone used an x-tender?

The Hellcat (Hellpussy) isn't an overly powerful sail so if you go with a shorter / softer mast you will lose bottom end. You may as well get a 7.5 / 7.8m which will rig correctly on a 460.

Moreover unless you have some experience in tuning a sail you will be forever fiddling to get it to get it right on the non reccomended mast.

430 with extenders, you're asking for trouble!
