Looking for some recommendations on brands etc.
I'm just want a bit more safety.

What Hardie said. Just the basic ones are good. Try e-bay, they often have discontinued pattens etc going cheap. Go to your local surf shop and try some on so you know what size you need.
Oh, that'd be taking business away from your local shop! The moral dilemma is yours.

I tried one - but found it uncomfortable (too small between the front and back), and it dumped a lot more water over my face when surfacing. My brother seems happy with his though.

I've got a Gath "Gedi" with removable ear covers now, and don't even notice that I'm wearing it.

Another vote for Gath..

Hey Dantren
I've just moved into coast/ocean windsurfing, so recently got keen on headgear

Bought a Gath Surf Convertible (I think its that model) black padding over forehead, no visor etc

Fits so snug with the padding provided, light as a feather, can take knocks, keeps the water and wind off your head, good stuff

Grab a gath
