So, I want to go on a windsurfing holiday this year in December or January (prob jan). I'm tossing up going to Dahab or coming to Perth for two or three weeks.
Which one do you think?
Obviously in Dahab everything would be laid on and in Perth we'd need a hire car, and mabe bring my gear or rent - I don't know. Would I get enough sailing (B&J) in Perth in Jan to make it worthwhile?
Then again, what about Jeri? Seems hard and expensive to get too. has anyone been?
I was going to budget 5g for the holiday. Would that be enough? Should I just stay home?
Decisions, decisions.
Late January in Perth, you can't beat it for windsurfing - maybe Lancelin or Geraldton - but WA definitely!
Good wind all afternoon, five days out of seven.
Warm to hot sunny weather
Friendly people
No foreign country worries
As for the cost - that depends how upmarket you want to go!
Don't know about Jeri or Dahab, but in January you would be hard pressed to find anywhere in the world better than WA. You'd even get to do the Lancelin Ocean Classic on January 9!
Why not get the best of both
stay at home Dec/Jan our best time of the year
AND
Go to Maui NOW for around $3k for 2weeks (cheaper if u sleep in hire van)
easy to get to, great hire gear
guaranteed 20k + for 10 out of 14 days
and you'll miss out on our winter
and wind vacuum![]()
for jeri you need to go a little earlier. there are some guys from qld that go every year.
every year i get an invite which i decline.
then get to watch the hours and hours of vid they bring back with them.
i believe the season is oct/nov?
give pete a call, even if you don't travel with him he will be able to let you know the ins and outs.

Thanks for all these responses guys.
Gestalt - I will give Peter a call.
If I were to have one board and two sails in WA/Geraldton in January what sizes would be best for an 80kg sailor?
Holidaying in WA 12 years ago over summer I used a Bic Saxo which I guess is around 80 litres in volume and a 5m and 4.4m Sailworks Revos. I took over my Bombora 270 and only used it on the way back sailing at Esperance in the bay. I would have weighed around 65kgs at the time.
Spent most of the time at Lancelin and it was the best summer holiday I've ever had.
Don't go to Dahab in Jan. Given how far it is from Aus it's not worth it at that time of year. Only worthwhile if you're stuck in a northern hemisphere winter, which you're not!
you might also consider mui ne in vietnam - i have some kite surf mates who went there in our summer and loved it. jibes centre had good gear apparently
