Although I am a windsurfing newbie, I wanna be an windsurfing instructor someday. Does anyone know the way? What (and where) courses should be taken and how many years of sailing experience it needs? Thank you
I can't help you with the info, but if you go to your local windsurf shop/school and I'm sure they will.
i did the course years ago via the AYF while working at a windsurfing school. the current course is through yachting australia.http://www.yachting.org.au/default.asp?MenuID=Training%2F4%2F8337%2F23998%2CNational%5FTraining%5FSchemes%2F34%2F22428%2F%2CNational%5FWindsurfing%5FScheme%2F1264%2F749%2F
surfconnect at sandgate may be able to train you up. give them a call.
there are some differences from country to country so if you want to work overseas as well you may need to find out more info. depends on what you are looking to achieve but
Hey Winddragon I used Flying Fish but was in Europe when i done my instructor course so i did all of my training and then the qualification in Vassiliki which was a really excellent place to be.
I was a relative beginner when i done my course but it did include 4 weeks of sailing every day and by the end i was comfortably planing in harness and straps, could make it around a gybe but nowhere near planing out so you really don't need to be that much of a good sailor to get your Level 1 instructor ticket
Flying fish are also based in Sydney, check out www.flyingfishonline.com/ for more info on the courses.
It's definitely worth while doing, I had some amazing times and there are plenty of companies that are willing to give you work, i ended up working for Neilson for 4 years in the Caribbean, Greece and Turkey and loved every minute of it.
If you need any more info or have any questions then drop me a line.
The hardest part of becomming a windsurfer instructor is,
finding people who want to learn.
All the ones I knew of have closed down many moons ago due to lack of students.
But thats in Queersland, you would expect that![]()

All in fun.
I just remember years ago there was heaps of rental/schools aound, now there is none and the instructor around here are all kiteing.
the rya course is the uk course. the australian version is the YA course.
it's been a long time since i've had anything to do with this but i thought the YA course was recognised in australia and a required prerequisite to work as a qualified instructor. i don't know about the insurance. i always worked for someone else.
i think the issue comes from recognition between countries.
there used to be a flyingfish branch at mooloolaba but i thought it closed a few years back.
i'm really not sure what the current setup is. probably worth a call to Yachting Australia.
