I guess it's not quite dead yet... at least not in Germany. Windsurfing that is. The Sylt world cup started this weekend. They are again expecting 200.000 spectators and the price pool is Euro 105.000 .
Then there is the live TV coverage and talk show appearances by Windsurfers on national television.
Compare that to Australia. You are lucky to see any surf comp footage in the news... let alone windsurfing. Perhaps the question in that mile long thread should have started with: "Is windsurfing in decline in Australia."
sadly we are now a nation of PC housewives, we prefer read top shelf magazines such as women's weekly and watch such engrossing shows as "a farmer/bachelor/geek wants a wife" or another endless variation of the same reality (non?) talent show "the voice/xfactor/so you think you can dance/idol". And obviously the most important news so far this spring has been some kid getting swooped by a magpie.
unless the blokes start manning up and taking control of their household dollars, all the advertising (and hence tv shows) will be targetted at these pc housewives who now control all the political rhetoric and household spending
/LULZ
p.s. windsurfing is fulleh sik brah
I think you got it in one!
a current affair/today tonight watching pc housewives are no longer gender specific (or never have been?)
HAHA that ad is awesome!!! ![]()
Sounds like Jenny's sister off 'Winners And Loosers' (only watch when not windy
)
Not dead.. Australian windsurfing needs more parents like these (behind the camera).. Postpone that kitchen renovation, and buy your kids a 2m.
Better still - kids gear needs to be light and should perform like a real sail. Nothing beats the Severne XS1. I think Aussie kids are lucky!
Rental places and windsurf schools like brands that last a long time and take a lot of punishment even if they're heavy and unresponsive. Beginners tend to be rough on gear. My son has tried many of these sails and they make learning so much harder - particularly if you want to plane...
Looking at the movie of Julien above, he is not in the harness much and he keeps falling in - it looks like it might not be easy for him to sail in the harness because the rig is wobbly and unstable - it doesn't even have a real mast!
Have a look at the difference in Alex's stance (also 9 years old) but using his Severne rig in this movie:
