hello every one just got a new board today, i was seeing if my old extension mast fits but it does not seem very tight on the bottom.
i have a 430 mast.. as you can see from the photo it does not fit tight,it locks in but does feel right...
i am quessing i have to get a Chinook extension(as i have a Chinook mast base) pole or can i buy a different brand to suit..
any help would be great.
Hi Airborn,
You can either replace the unijoint (the rubber bit) with a chinook uni, when the two are together they will look like this:
Of course you have to make sure that this chinook doovy will mate properly with your extension.
Or I think you might be able to replace the base with one of these:
I think I had one of these tyronsea things floating around, I'll have a look.
[edit] I just had a look, and it looks like that base was a casualty of moving house. They're pretty cheap though.
I think the bottom of your Uni Joint needs a Tyronsea base to fit it properly. The Chinook is not the right size for it.
What state are you in?
That looks like an old Tyronsea uni, with a brass fitting below that yellow plastic.
Yep you really need a chinook compatible uni. You may be able to keep the mast extension, just fit a new bottom part.
The chinook system has a spring clip cup that clips into the extension.
If the cup is a good fit into your extension tube, you can disconnect the old bottom and drill a couple of holes for the cups clips.
the bit that is in your new board is a chinook two bolt base and they are very good IMO,
they are about $25 dollars last time i bought one,
Buy another one and stick it in you other board, then buy a chinook uni to fit.
IF you wanna go all out , then buy a a chinook tendon uni. i think its called a powerhaul EX or something, they are about $100 and fit into those bases , of course they are a euro pin which means u will have to buy another extension or and adaptor.
Powerhaul EX IS THE BEST euro pin uni u can get because it is made of solid stainless and is allot less likely to snap then the boge type that have a pin screwed onto a bolt hanging out of the rubber.![]()
thanks maverick you have any idea in perth where i can get this chinook tendon uni.

looks like the one i need lucky me... wow what a great site.. solved my problems..
thanks again to everyone that reply.. very friendly group we have here...
Any windsurfing shop will have these.
Take your mast extension (the aluminium bit that sticks up inside the mast) and your chinook deck plate into the shop, they will sort you out.
You can use an allen key to take the chinook base off the board. When you get a chinook unijoint, then you can use that unijoint to tighten and loosen the deck plate, it's got an allen key built into the bottom of it. Took me ages to figure that one out!
