Hey fellas just started windsurfing and injured my back last Wednesday. Any one know how long to get over a bulging disc??? I was just starting to really enjoy Windsurfing!![]()
6 - 8 weeks.
Physio helps you feel better in the meantime but the time to recovery is the same.
You'll have plenty of time to recover before summer!
well, my wife has been suffering for a long time, 8 weeks now, and after a scan, a MRI she is off to the surgeon tomorrow !![]()
I hope you won't be as bad,
did you use a confortable harness ?
Sorry to hear about your injury Jason. I totally agree with Windxstasy about muscle tone, particularly the core region between the hips and the bottom of the ribs - ie the lumbar spine where all the spine has to support it is muscle. The lower back and the knees are two key injury areas as a consequence of our evolution from four footed to two footed creatures.
I would highly recommend some yoga or pilates when you are well enough - but preferably one of the more meditative styles such as Hatha, Gita or Satyananda. These in my opinion are safer than Iyengar. I have practiced yoga for 25 years or so and I credit it with playing a big part in injury prevention as it tones the muscles and enhances flexibility. I crush fractured my lumbar spine at 18 crashing a motorbike but thanks to good general fitness and yoga I don't get back pain and am now 50 - touch wood!
Gory picture of 100% ruptured patella tendon - long story so won't bore you with the details, but it happened just as I was getting back into sailing after a 16 year break. Took another 3.5 years before the knee was up to sailing again. (hence the brace on left knee in my avatar).
PS - look away if squimish.
Choco,
Have an MRI to confirm the tear, or make sure it is not something more serious.
I went in for a minor tear repair, only for the surgeon to discover my ACL was in a bit of a mess as well. He did a clean up but recovery was a lot slower.

Choco, get that menicus tear tidied up soon and you'll avoid a lot of arthritic change and a possible knee replacement in the future...
