I think that seeing as this guy won this board in a competition (some seabreeze/GTC comp. I think) and he is sponsored by F2 he should give the board to a local windsurfing club or give it back to the GTC and so someone needy might get to own it, instead of trying to sell it for top dollar for a second hand board, no warranty etc...too.

Given that we know nothing about Tonys sponsorship deal with F2, but it is quite probable that he doesnt get boards free, but rather at cost price.
This means he stillhas to fund his equipment, so if he can get some extra cash by selling the Tabou then what harm is that.
Someone else gets a brand new Tabou at significant discount.
Tony may choose to buy another F2 with the cash.
Tony has done the right thing by F2 by respecting the arrangement.
WRT warranty. The original manufacturers warranty is valid until its warranty period expires . Once the board was legitimately imported into Australia then warranty is not an issue. For example, I can buy a 2 year old car and it will still have one year (depends on model) of manufacturers warranty that I can avail of (even though I was not the original purchasor).

No it's not wrong lol, but i tell you what, i've never felt better and more thankful for Claude (the winner of the KA sail) to donate his prize back to the juniors. and i feel that for a prize this is obviously the best way to go i think!!! but his not obliged to donate his board back to the challenge so best of luck with it. although i do think that when you win a prize like this, selling it is not always the most moral thing to do!

Just a point for JayBee: I was actually looking through the manual of a mate who had just purchased a new board and i was suprised to find that with windsurfing gear - any warranty is apparently void once you sell the board - regardless of if its used or not. Its a bit s$*t, but something to remember.

I'm not too sure how I've upset you guys.... All I did was get an email saying I'd won the board! The Tabou was a random prize draw for all competitors that had entered speeds in the GPS team challenge.
There may be some problem with the definition of "sponsored". I'm not sponsored in the sense like most sports in Aust for millions of dollars. If it matters, I pay more for my F2's than "non" sponsored guys do when they are 6 months old. ( I am expected to buy 3 of these a year). I use F2 because I choose to and love the boards but due to lack of funds am not updating to the 09's but sticking with the 08's. If I had won a sail or fin, I would have definately donated it back to the draw. KA are much more generous with gear and they don't cost me much. As far as selling it for "top dollar", The board is still unused and is an awesome board and is worth every cent of $2000.
I realise that our sport is awesome fun and is never going to make $$ as a professional sport (Memories of spending $15,000 to go to world cup in Fueteventura to win $300 prize money), but I'm not too sure why I have to justify selling this board to cover some costs etc??
As far as feeling guilty for winning Lotto?? Not sure either. If you won $2000 in lotto would you give it all to someone who needs it more??? Would be a nice thing to do.
If you drive a van (that you're perfectly happy with) and won a Commodore , would you give it away?
I have sold lots of gear VERY cheap to young guys and even given heaps away to get people started off just to help out. I'm not sure if I'm some guy ripping off the world of windsurfing...

Don't go crying poor just because someone's got sour grapes because they didn't win a 'random' comp that you happened to be lucky enough to win![}:)] How many people win those 'boy's-town' lottery houses/cars/boats, just to cash them in?
Sell it if you don't need it, and if you're selling it at 20% less than market value - someone's gonna get a good deal, so no-one should be complaining!

If you're name ended in Dunkerbeck or Naish the OP's views could be justified.....maybe. It's always dangerous to make assumptions...I've known world class athletes that are struggling financialy because their commitment to a sport has required a huge financial investment to reach the objectives they aspire to.
Good luck with the sale, I just wish it was on the market before I bought my new board.
